They will never respect and love their teachers which is very essential for the overall development of student personality. This is because a guru or teacher is role model for a student.

He must set an example for his students through his behavior and actions. He must deal with is students patiently, advising and guiding them to excel in every sphere of life such as academic, sports, music and various other extracurricular activities.

The supreme court states that children are not to be subjected to corporal punishment in schools and they should receive education in an environment of freedom and dignity, free from fear. The national policy on education directs the school authorities to take necessary action in the matter,so that this evil practice affecting the physical and mental health of children can be nipped in the bud.

Corporal punishment does not have any positive effect on a student. He may even leave the school and studies. Such development may be disastrous for a child future and for the society. Corporal punishment may even cause permanent physical is orders in a child. For example her slapping upon the ears can make him totally deaf for the rest of his life. Harsh whipping and canning of the hands and legs can damage the bones and muscles.

There are some people who would say scolding of schoolchildren and verbal intimidation should not be outlawed. This argument is flawed. Verbal abuse could be as damaging and humiliating for children, especially the younger ones, as physical punishment. Though, a decline in rates and severity of such incidences has been noticed in recent years. In UK, the act is strictly banned in government as well as private schools.

There are many other countries in the world, where the law has been adopted but due to lax execution, the desired results are far from the reach. In India, around 17 states have implemented the law to ban corporal punishments in the school. But as said earlier the proper execution of the law is missing.

This has lead to consistent cases of corporal punishments coming into light. In some cases, the extent of humiliation has been felt on such a large extent that the child had ended up his life. Uttar Pradesh, Delhi and Andhra Pradesh are the worst performers. The practice is prevalent not only in rural or remote areas but in affluent schools claiming to representing the epitome of the society.

There is a large section of society that justifies such actions and considers it as an essential and effective manner of creating discipline among the children. According to them, punishing a child hardly on the spot, checks his activities in the future and prevents him from repeating the same mistake.

However, such arguments are irrational and hold no solid grounds. Studies have shown that spanking or punishing a child yields no good results. It's self explanatory, the students are not allowed to talk during their lunch period. Some parents are hot mad about it.

I can't help but chuckle a bit. Didn't these parents ever give their child a time out? This is actually better than getting a time out because you can eat instead of just sitting by yourself quietly. The canceling of recess still exists today. However, parents are threatening lawsuits because they say that it is in violation of the school policy.

Apparently, in some school districts, no child can be denied their God given right to recess. Recently, I heard about a teacher who made the students run laps outside during recess because the class misbehaved. Some parents were really upset about that as well.

The other punishments being handed out by teachers include, yelling, making children sit in the front of the class, taking away treats and revoking non-uniform day privileges. I don't have a problem with teachers punishing students, as long as it's a fair punishment.

The classrooms would be complete chaos if there were no consequences for bad behavior. I think that teachers should consider giving extra school work as a punishment. Maybe the children should be required to write an essay about respect, common courtesy, good behavior, punishment, peer pressure or anything else that could make them think about why the punishment needed to be issued. No matter what stage you are in your life, there are consequences for your actions and school is no exception.

Teachers need to be able to set boundaries in their classrooms. A classroom without boundaries and consequences is a great disservice to every student in that class. If you are a parent that believes that teachers should not be allowed to punish students, maybe you should consider homeschooling your child. Parents , Punishment , Recess , Teachers.
